Countries Requiring ISPM-15 Compliance
- Australia & New Zealand — Strictest enforcement; non-compliant shipments are re-exported or destroyed
- USA & Canada — All wood packaging must be ISPM-15 compliant since 2005
- EU (all 27 members) — Required for all wood packaging entering the EU
- Brazil, Argentina, Mexico — ISPM-15 mandatory for all wood packaging
- India — Required; non-compliant shipments face destruction of wood packaging
- China — Required for imports; also requires treatment for exports
- Japan & Korea — ISPM-15 compliant since 2007
⚠ Critical for Australia: Australia (DAFF/BICON) has the strictest wood packaging enforcement in the world. Even a single untreated wood pallet can result in the entire container being held, treated at the importer's expense ($2,000-$5,000+), or re-exported. Always use ISPM-15 certified or alternative materials (plastic, metal, plywood is exempt).
📝 Exempt Materials: Plywood, particle board, oriented strand board (OSB), and veneer are exempt from ISPM-15 because they are processed in a way that eliminates pests. Consider using these alternatives to avoid fumigation requirements entirely.
